Below is a post from Chapter 8 Row Reps Connie Farley & Jim McEver. Many thanks to everyone who helped make Escapade 58 an excellent rally!
Once again we are on the road and the 2018 Escapade58 (May 27 – June 1) is receding in the rear view mirror. Before we travel too far down the line, we would like to share our thoughts on how Mexican Connection Chapter 8 (MCC8) was represented during the Row.
The name “Row” originated when the first Chapters and BoFs gathered and lined up their rigs in ‘rows’, they would set up tables outside their rigs with club information, so prospective members could learn more. Thanks to Lockie Sailer Escapees Chapter Director and Row head person, for this info. Lockie is an Escapees treasure, not only did she have ready answers to our hectic questions but she arranged for all Row volunteers to be entered in a raffle giveaway.
For the 2018 Row, Jim and I volunteered at the annual meeting in Guerrero Negro, BC., and are happy we did. Our “job” was to greet and inform visitors on what, where, and who MCC8 is, as well as providing food for the Social.
This was an easy task as our recent experience on the February 2018 Wine 2 Whales caravan was fresh in our hearts. We fielded plenty of questions as visitors to our table were curious as to travel conditions in Mexico. Some wanted to reminisce about their good olde hassle free trip taken in younger days. Most folks were intrigued and delighted by our sharing stories of the fun and camaraderie we had on our trip to Mexico and the comfort of group travel.
The highlight of Escapade58 was the presentation by our MCC8 Wagonmaster Kassandra Dennis for the ‘reveal’ of the 2019 Mexican itinerary. (See our website for details.) This was done in conjunction with a Social, where everyone was invited to mingle and enjoy drinks and a light dinner, while hearing information about Mexican travel.
This year at the Social we had Mexican Tacos, tres leche cake and horchata on our refreshment menu. We had more than the 100 attendees we had planned for, and by the time the last person was served, we could only have accommodated another three or four people.
Also at our Social, MCC8 President Ed Dennis provided several bottles of Mexican liqueurs for a giveaway. Three happy winners were selected at random. Cheers to Loretta Armstrong, Irina Jurgevic and Chantelle Hobgood.
The food, the raffle, the Mexican presentation – all made for a delightful evening.
Back on the Row: the hall was open for 4 days – and plenty of person hours were necessary to staff the table. Luckily the amigos of the Mexican Connection responded and we had 5 couples who lent tremendous assistance. Without doubt a tip of the sombrero to Emma & Kevin Ridley, Jane & Terry McClay, Audry & Beal Trahan, Mary & Rod Garges and DeeDee & Tony Sparks. From setup to packup these folks helped with any task asked and showed the special way the Mexican Connection has connected us.
Please consider joining us on the Row next year, you will meet lots of great people and have fun!
Escapade59 will be in Tucson, AZ at the Pima County Fairgrounds March 17-22, 2019.
