While staying at the Zoo in Baja’s Valle de Guadalupe, many of our people will also enjoy Mexico’s premier wine region, which produces 90% of all Mexican wine. Although the area has been producing wine for over 100 years, in the last decade, it has experienced incredible growth that has turned it into an up-and-comer on the global scene.
It’s now become an epicenter of northern Baja for boutique wineries, gourmet restaurants, and chic hotels, garnering the attention of publications such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Condé Nast Traveler, and the LA Times.
And to think, we will enjoy five incredible days in this region, which has so many wineries to visit, and the Zoo is smack dab in the middle of this wine country. Some Mexican tour companies make this their only tour destination, some charging thousands of dollars, but we will be right here in the middle of it, just one of the three locations we will visit on this years rally.
Many compare the Valle de Guadalupe to California’s Sonoma County as it was decades ago. The atmosphere is relaxed and rustic but sophisticated at the same time. You’ll drive for miles on a dirt road to get to a gourmet restaurant where you’ll enjoy a six-course meal with a full wine pairing. There are now almost 200 wineries in the valley.
If you enjoy fine wine, you won’t want to miss out on this years trip. Also, remember to pick up a bottle of wine for our blind wine-tasting competition we will enjoy in San Felipe towards the end of our rally.
That being said, there is no reason to bring more than one bottle of wine with you this trip, as you can buy some great wine here at our first stop in Mexico.
